Chris Wright MA,LRAM,ARCM
CHRIS WRIGHT was musical director of Staxton singers from September 2000 until December 2004, and we were delighted then to welcome him back as our accompanist. A Londoner by birth, Chris started the piano at a young age and then took up the 'cello as a pupil at Eltham College. he subsequently did a good deal of accompanying and choral singing while taking a music degree at Magdalene College, Cambridge which included a spell of tuition under John Rutter.
After gaining a postgraduate music teaching qualification at London University and diplomas in piano, Chris taught music in senior schools in Reading and Nottingham, later switching to younger pupils to lead departments in Surrey and Sussex. He directed the chapel music at Trent College.
In 2010 Chris handed over the rôle of accompanist to Staxton Singers to Mike Lester, but continues with his duties as organist and choirmaster at St Laurence's Church, Scalby, continues to teach privately, direct the community orchestra at Gladstone Road Junior School and plays regularly with the Scarborough Orchestra. .
