You are invited
to a musical strawberry tea!
On Sunday 11th July we're celebrating our birth as a choir 25 years ago in Staxton with a teaparty in Willerby!
And it will be a musical strawberry tea!
We'll provide the strawberries! And we hope you'll provide some of the music!
This invitation is to anyone with any connection with Staxton Singers over the years. Come and meet old friends! Reminisce over old times!
Make new friends! And let's make music together!
It starts at2pm and if you're coming from Scarborough, turn right at the lights at the bottom of Staxton Hill; take the next left and follow the road past the church and you'll find us in a big marquee, strawberries and voices at the ready!
Bravo!
A WELL DESERVED standing ovation for John Rutter and our accompanist Chris Wright at the end of a brilliant singing day for over 400 singers one Saturday in June in Scarborough!
More details when we can draw breath, but it was a huge, overwhelming success! They all wanted to do it again - so watch this space! Meanwhile click here for an album of pictures taken on the day by Glynis, Wendy and Trevor. You are welcome to copy, download or print any of these images, but we'd be grateful if you would credit Staxton Singers when you do.
Well done at Sainsbury's!
Carol singing raises £235.46 for MacMillan Nurses!
Thanks to Sainsbury's for their hospitality this year we sang carols indoors - a welcome chaqnge from the rain and snow of the last few years! And thanks to the generosity of Sainsbury's shoppers, we were able to present Macmillan Nurses with £235.46!"
After the hour long carol singing - unaccompanied and led on this occasion by our accompanist, Chris Wright - Sainsbury's refreshed us all with a complementary mince pie and a coffee, then for quite a few of us, a little last minute shopping...
So look out for us next year! But meanwhile, watch this space for news of what we're doing during 2010, our Silver Jubilee year!
JOHN RUTTER SINGING DAY
WE ARE STILL FINALISING the details for the John Rutter Singing Day on JUNE 12th, but booking forms will be available from choir members and on this web site early in the New year. If you would like to be notified by email when the booking forms are available, please use our CONTACT FORM
End of term social...
WE ENDED 2009 with a social evening. there was a lot of food, and quite a lot of booze (non-alcoholic for the drivers, of course) and then some entertainment...
We had quizzes... |
...and monologues: this one about |
And we had duets. |
Trevor K sang one song to the tune of another... |
..while Stan sang another song to the tune of yet another song. |
Chris, meanwhile, took it all in his stride. |
Another game: find your partner - sticky labels provided - by asking questions to which the answer may be only "yes" or "no." So Cleopatra was desperately seeking Antony, and so on. But can you identify these choristers from their back views? |

Santa arrives to choral welcome!
|
Staxton Singers sang carols at Spital Farm on Saturday 21st November to welcome visitors who included Santa and some of his helpers! ![]() |
As usual with our carol singing (see our gallery for last year's carol singing in the rain!) the weather wasn't entirely kind... ![]() |
|
So although we enjoyed the singing...
|
...we decided to put Stan in the stocks!

Singing Day for Young Singers
The Singing Day with Jonathan Willcocks was just brilliant! A score or more young people and a similar number of staxton Singers learned - very quickly! - some of Jonathan's own arrangements including a hauntingly beautiful weaving together of 'Flow softly sweet Afton' and 'Blow the wind southerly.'
Here's a picture of us at work!
And some pictures of Jonathan working!
New!Check out our new blog at www.staxtonsingers.blogspot.com. It's still a work in progress, but it's your chance to have your say!
Singing day!
On Saturday September 26th the Staxton Singers are organising a Singing Day for young people in the age range 11 to 21+, to be held at Westborough Methodist Church. The day will be led by Jonathan Willcocks, the well-known composer and conductor and will run from 10am to 4pm. This will be a great opportunity to give young musicians an introduction to choral singing in a relaxed and informal setting.
More information soon!
Stan's new photos!

Mostly about this web site...
It's been an entertaining week! Just as I think I've got the web site sorted, new material arrives!
But that's a good thing, really, so now there's a new "What's on" page with our planned performance dates, and with some details of other musical and choral events in the area that might be of interest: if you would like an event listed there please email me or use our new contact form.
It was also a great delight to get a copy of the photograph of Staxton Singers at their very first public outing, a wedding at St Peter's Church, Willerby, in 1985. It's in our gallery (which now might need rewriting, but the work of a web designer is never finished!) You might recognise some of the faces: if so, please let me know and I'll tag them. I'm also hoping to get a history of Staxton Singers and if you can contribute, whether old programmes, photos, anecdotes etc, again, please email me.
