Our Musical Director
Stan Kell
STAN KELL became Staxton Singers' Musical Director in 2006. Although he was born and brought up in Hull, where he is again living, much of his musical activity has been further afield: at St John's College, York, where he founded and conducted the G&S Society; in County Durham, where he became involved with male voice choirs and brass bands; and in London and the South East where he conducted a wide range of choral works spanning several centuries and was stage manager with Kentish Opera.
His love of singing was nurtured as a founder member of the original Hull Youth Choir under the charismatic David Clover (who founded the National Youth Choir and Orchestra) and he has led the development of singing in schools and adult education.
In Scarborough he has conducted 'Messiah' and the anti-slavery work 'Cargo' at the Spa. He also conducts the Cottingham Singers and sings himself with the renowned Beverley Chamber Choir.
